Haven started as a small showroom on High Street. Thirty-seven years later, we’re still here — same family, same building, same belief that furniture should last.
The Haven Family
Started by the Callahan family. Still the Callahan family.
Haven was founded in 1987 by Thomas and Eileen Callahan, who opened a 1,200-square-foot showroom on North High Street with twelve sofas and a handshake policy for returns. Thomas had spent a decade in furniture manufacturing in Grand Rapids; Eileen had an eye for room composition that no amount of trade experience could teach.
Their son Patrick took over operations in 2009 after spending five years working every role in the store — delivery driver, floor associate, buyer’s assistant. He expanded the showroom to its current 14,000 square feet, added the design consultation program, and brought in the lighting and rug collections that are now among our most popular departments.
Thomas still comes in on Saturdays. He tends to head straight for the leather sofa section, which he admits is his favorite part of the store.

Curation over volume
We carry 200+ brands, but we don't carry everything from any of them. Every piece on our floor has been evaluated for construction quality, long-term durability, and honest value. If we wouldn't put it in our own homes, it doesn't go in our showroom.
Relationships over transactions
We've had customers come back for every stage of their life — first apartment, first house, growing family, downsizing in retirement. That continuity isn't possible if every interaction is treated as a one-time sale. We play the long game.
Knowledge that actually helps
Our staff can explain the difference between an eight-way hand-tied spring and a sinuous spring coil, and why it matters for a $600 sofa versus a $2,400 one. We give you information you can use — not a pitch.

We bring an interior designer’s perspective to your budget.
Our in-store design consultants — Mara, Delia, and James — each have more than a decade of interior design experience and spend their days on the floor with customers, not behind a screen. They know our inventory cold, which means they can compose a room quickly and tell you exactly what to pair with what you already own.
Consultations are free, with no purchase required. Book in advance or walk in on a weekday — weekends tend to be walk-in heavy, so appointments are more reliable if you want uninterrupted time.
